Based on the approach of shifting to the in-house production of procured electricity (self-production for self-consumption), we are promoting both energy creation and energy storage that demonstrate consideration for the local environment. By entering the green energy generation field, with a principal focus on solar and wind power, along with storage batteries, we aim to build smart, green ECO systems that are firmly rooted in daily life in the Tokyu area.In April 2024, the solar power plants owned and managed by a special purpose company (SPC) that we set up with Mitsub-ishi HC Capital Energy Inc. in June 2023 went online. The renewable electricity generated will be used to supply part of the electricity used at the Tokyu Corporation Group’s facilities under offsite PPAs*. We will take the opportunity presented by this project to move forward with “self-production for self-consumption” using renewable energy. In addition, Tokyu Power Supply will address the efficient supply of renewable energy through demand and supply management that leverages its electricity retail know-how centered on the Tokyu area. Similarly, we concluded basic agreements on solar power plant development with Solar Frontier K.K. and AdValue Inc. in March 2024, and SPCs established by Tokyu will acquire the developed solar power plants in due course. In both cases, the renewable electricity generated will be supplied to facilities in Shibuya and other parts of the Tokyu area via Tokyu Power Supply for use in meeting some of these facilities’ electricity needs. Going forward, we will continue to in-crease the number of facilities in the Tokyu area supplied with power under PPAs, and undertake other initiatives aimed at shifting to the in-house production of procured electricity, in order to bring the Tokyu Smart Green Concept to fruition. In October 2023, Tokyu Corporation and Tokyu Power Supply established KAWASAKI MIRAI Energy Co., Ltd. in partnership with the City of Kawasaki, NTT Anode Energy, Kawasaki Shinkin Bank, JA Ceresa Kawasaki, Kiraboshi Bank, and the Bank of Yo-kohama. The purpose of establishing this energy company is to supply public facilities and private sector facilities within Kawa-saki with surplus power from the city’s waste-to-energy facilities and renewable power sourced within Kawasaki and beyond. By building a local energy platform in which diverse stakehold-ers—including citizens, business operators, and financial insti-tutions—can participate, the company will seek to promote the self-production for self-consumption of renewable energy and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Kawasaki City area. Through this business venture, we will promote the development of renewable electricity sources via solar power generation PPAs, initiatives that tap into energy management technology, and pioneering endeavors aimed at creating the zero-carbon society envisaged in the plan for effective utilization of Ener-gy-from-Waste to expand the use of renewable energy in the city, which was formulated by the City of Kawasaki in March 2022.44KAWASAKI MIRAI Energy Co., Ltd.Business partnersGreen Energy Initiatives
