We are working on a number of initiatives based on themes that we have identified, including the Super Circular Society Project, which has been designed with the development of environ-mentally friendly recycling-based societies in mind, and the XR* Project, which forms part of our efforts to achieve urban development based on digital transformation (DX). *Cross reality: a general term covering virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR).In February 2023, we began a pilot trial involving the in-stallation of a water resource circulation system using mul-tiple fermentation technology at Maipari Miyakojima Island Tropical Fruit Park. Implemented by Tokyu Corporation in partnership with Chodai Co., Ltd. and Token Sangyo Co., Ltd., the project is aimed at creating a recycling-oriented society and conserving biodiversity. Wastewater emitted from facilities on the Maipari site is treated by multiple fer-mentation equipment that employs fermentation technol-ogy to purify the water without the use of chlorine or any other chemicals. The treated water is then reused for such purposes as flushing toilets, and is currently contributing to a re-duction of around 30% in the use of tap water by Maipari facilities. While running a platform for co-creation with startups and the like that leverage Tokyu Group assets, we aim to build a sustainable innovation ecosystem. In addition to pursuing business co-cre-ation leveraging the Tokyu Group’s wide range of customer contact points and assets, and mutual business transformation via the resolution of issues faced by the group, we aim to build an innovation ecosystem that will support the sustainable growth of startups, primarily in Shibuya. At the FY2023 Demo Day, the Tokyu Prize was award-ed to FOOD REBORN Co., Ltd., a company building a mechanism for creating an income source for farmers by producing fibers from pineapple leaves and stems. Through partnerships with Tokyu Railways and other Tokyu Group companies, we will pursue a zero-carbon, recycling-based society, and create communities in harmony with the envi-ronment. TAP will promote the creation of new businesses through pilot trials that leverage the Tokyu Group’s strengths and assets. Through open innovation, we will pursue urban development that is the envy of the world by re-sponding to changing and diversifying values, and continuing to create the kind of new solutions only Tokyu can deliver. Launched in October 2023 in partnership with Shibuya-based Web3 startups PBADAO, SHINSEKAI Technologies, and PARDEY, SHIBUYA Q DAO com-bines the real world with the digital realm to provide a new way of experiencing the Shibuya area using NFTs. Project participants can purchase a set con-sisting of a non-fungible token (NFT) that serves as a participation certificate and a card-style hard wallet, enabling them to access new entertainment experi-ences and exclusive privileges. As well as taking part in events where NFTs collected by visiting restaurants and the like can be exchanged for actual products, participants can obtain NFTs as rewards for engaging in activities such as graffiti removal in Shibuya. In September 2023, we launched the JTOS consortium of railway companies in partnership with JR EAST Start UP, Odakyu Electric Railway, and SEIBU HOLDINGS. The ob-jective of JTOS is to elevate the technologies and ideas of startup companies to the level of social implementation. The consortium aims to create innovations that will become commonplace in the future by providing an environment for conducting pilot trials that can achieve a multiplier effect by drawing on each company’s stations, railways, real estate, and other management and information resources. The first initiative undertaken as a pilot trial was the joint hosting of a nature-positive* event in the Biome wildlife collection app, in partnership with Biome, Inc. The second initiative is an ongoing pilot trial with Luup, Inc. involving electric micro-mobility sharing services in tourist spots. For the third, JTOS worked with grow & partners, Inc. on a pilot trial of “eki-iku,” a station-based childcare service aimed at making tempo-rary childcare services part of daily life. The fourth initiative involves a pilot trial of a program to promote international exchange, in collaboration with HelloWorld Inc. 42
