As well as replacing old, run-down facilities and offices with large, highly earthquake-resistant buildings, we are preparing temporary stay facilities for people stranded in Tokyo in the event of disaster and a warehouse for storing disaster relief supplies. Additionally, aiming to create a flood-resistant neighborhood, we have installed under-ground storm water tanks beneath the station square, which is prone to flooding, due to its location in a valley. We are also creating pleasant spaces through such initiatives as the regen-eration of the Shibuya River via a public-private partner-ship and the redevelopment of a disused section of the To-yoko Line into a footpath called Shibuya River Street. Improvement of underground square at the East Exit, Shibuya StationWe have enhanced Shibuya Station’s functions as a transportation node by developing an underground square at the East Exit, near the Miyamasuzaka Central ticket gate. To increase convenience for visitors to the neighborhood, we have put in place a metropolitan bus information center, coin lockers, and a cafe with tourist information functions that will help to distribute information and generate additional activity.Proposing a Shibuya-style city lifeWe will create synergies by integrating the three elements of work, play, and live, and working to develop the digital and sustainable infrastructure underpinning them. Linking these elements organically, we will aim to create a Shibuya-style city life offering a comfortable, enjoyable lifestyle in Shibuya that enables each person to pursue individual happiness and gives them a true sense of abundance through harmony between people, nature, and society. Above all, to enable people to make choices appropriate to an age in which we can choose our own way of life, we have assigned a specific keyword to each of the three elements: Work = Flexible; Play = Touchable; Live = Switchable. We will promote an array of initiatives inspired by these keywords. We are improving flow lines and upgrading staying spaces in the station vicinity to address the issues that made the area hard to navigate, namely its lo-cation in a valley and division on all sides by railway facilities and major roads. Our aim is to create a safe, secure, and comfortable neighborhood for all users.Development of urban cores and pedestrian decksTo increase the convenience of vertical movement in Shibuya, with its bowl-shaped valley, we are striving to improve accessibility by installing pedestrian decks that connect previously divided areas and also by developing urban cores—spaces for vertical movement that enable multistory urban infrastructure to be reached by elevator or escalator. In September 2020, we opened pedestrian decks linking Shibuya Station with Shibuya Fukuras and Shibuya Mark City (Shibuya Fukuras Connecting Deck and Shibu-nishi Deck) at the second floor level, thereby securing highly accessible pedestrian connections even during the construction work taking place in the area.Courtesy of Shibuya Station District Area Management Offering new solutions for ways of working / Supporting startups / Encouraging exchange and co-creationDeveloping accommodation facilities / Spreading the word about Shibuya culture / Supporting creatorsUpgrading living environments / Supporting next-generation education / Enhancing mobilityUpgrading communications infrastructure / Integrating entertainment with digital / Achieving town securityPromoting a zero-carbon society / Strengthening resilience / Developing walkable environments19Work (Flexible) Play (Touchable) Live (Switchable) Digital Digital SustainableSustainableWork (Flexible) Play (Touchable) Live (Switchable) Digital SustainableShibuyaHikarieDigital WorkPlayLiveShibuya Scramble SquarePhase I (East Tower)Phase II(Central and West Towers)ShibuyaMark CityProposing a Shibuya-style city lifeInside the underground storm water tanks at the East Exit, Shibuya Station (courtesy of the Shibuya Station Area Land Readjustment Project Joint Developers)Greater SHIBUYA 1.0Greater SHIBUYA 2.0イラレで部分調整
