THE ROYAL EXPRESS tourist train has eight cars, including passenger cars, a kitchen car, and a multipurpose car available for concerts, weddings, and exhibitions. The trains offer customers a memora-ble trip by combining materials and techniques born of the latest technology with traditional materials and craft skills to create quality spaces and appealing on-board services. We have also developed related facilities and the surrounding environment, and are working with local people and other companies in the Tokyu Group to highlight the charms of Izu to people within Japan and overseas by offering new trips, with a view to revitaliz-ing the Izu area.We operate THE ROYAL HOUSE—a restaurant offer-ing panoramic views of Shimoda Bay—on the summit of Mount Nesugata, which rises up in front of Izukyu Shimoda Station, where THE ROYAL EXPRESS ter-minates. Diners can enjoy dishes that offer the comfortable famil-iarity of nostalgia and make the most of seafood and seasonal vegetables, as well as beverag-es selected with a careful eye to their area of origin and the meth-ods used in their production. The ropeway cabins feature natural wood interiors and exterior paint-work in a royal blue that matches the livery of the train and stands out beautifully against the green-ery of Mount Nesugata’s trees. In February 2019, Tokyu Railways and JR Hokkaido partnered with JR East and JR Freight to set up a cruise train project. The tourism initiative is aimed at regional revitalization and tourism promotion to sup-port the Hokkaido area in the wake of the 2018 Hok-kaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake. The train went into operation in 2020.In 2024, we ran a total of nine train cruises across three itineraries: the Hokkaido 5th Anniversa-ry Cruise, which was a special itinerary designed to thank passengers as we marked the Hokkaido Cruise Train’s fifth anniversary; the Hokkaido Cruise Train, which has been a popular itinerary ever since we began cruise train operations in Hokkaido; and Hok-kaido: Journey to Japan’s Northernmost Point, which travels all the way to the northernmost tip of Japan. As well as offering passengers the chance to experience a wide range of Hokkaido’s attractions, we are contributing to tourism promotion and regional revitalization in Hokkaido through these train cruises.Tokyu has partnered with JR Shikoku, JR Freight, and JR West on a project aimed at tourism promotion and regional revitalization in the Shikoku and Setouchi area by operating a cruise train. Tours departed from Okayama Station to visit places including Takamatsu and Matsuyama in winter 2024. Taking in the abundant culinary bounties of both land and sea from the Shikoku and Setouchi region, stunning vistas of the islands studded throughout the Seto Inland Sea, and encounters with people who still uphold local culture and traditions, travelers will en-joy a thrilling and beautiful voyage offering unique experiences that only a trip on The Royal Express can provide.
