Tokyu Railways and Sagami Railway (Sotetsu) both operate services using the Sotetsu-Tokyu Direct Line, the 10 km or so stretch of track between Hiyoshi Station and Hazawa yokohama-kokudai Station built and owned by the Japan Railway Construction, Trans-port and Technology Agency. The recently opened line provides a direct link between central Kanagawa Prefecture, western Yokohama City, and central To-kyo, offering through services from Sotetsu lines to the To-yoko and Meguro lines via the To-kyu- Shin-yo-kohama Line. It has also improved access from Tokyu lines to Shinkansen lines (through Shin-yokohama Station) and forms an extensive regional railway network that encompasses 14 lines across seven operators, including Tokyo Metro’s Namboku and Fukutoshin lines, Toei’s Mita Line, Saitama Railway Corporation’s Saitama Stadium Line, and Tobu’s Tojo Line. In conjunction with the opening of the Sotet-su-Tokyu Direct Line, we have progressively switched from six- to eight-car trains on the Meguro Line. All trains belong-ing to Tokyu Railways now operate in an eight-car set, deliver-ing higher quality rail services by ensuring Sotetsu and To-kyu- Shin-yokohama Line opening ceremonySeibu-yūrakuchō, Ikebukuro, Sayama Linesimproved comfort through increased transport capac-ity, and helping to achieve stable running via shorter alighting and boarding times. The new airport line (linking Yaguchi-no-watashi, Kamata, Keikyu- Kamata, and O-torii stations) is pro-posed in the Council of Transport Policy’s report “Ap-proaches to Future Urban Railways in the Tokyo Area” (Report No. 198; April 20, 2016) as a line that will ad-dress the missing link between Keikyu- Kamata Station and Kamata Station on the JR and Tokyu lines, and also help to make access to Haneda Airport more convenient. In October 2022, we established Haneda Airport Line Co., Ltd. with Ota City as a joint public- private venture to develop the new line. Going for-ward, we will pursue more in-depth consideration of the Yaguchi-no-watashi to Keikyu- Kamata sec-tor as the priority for development, with the new joint venture at the heart of efforts to commercialize the new airport access line.Trains belonging to seven operators that run on the single directly operated route (from left: Saitama Railway, Toei Subway, Tokyo Metro, Tokyu Railways, Sagami Railway, Tobu Railway, and Seibu Railway)Tobu Tojo LineTokyo Metro Fukutoshin LineSigning ceremony for the agreement on establishing the joint public-private ventureSaitama Railway Saitama Stadium LineTokyo MetroHanzomon LineTokyo Metro Namboku LineToei Mita Line11Railway Network Expansion
