On April 1, 2022, we ex-panded this initiative to cover all seven of our heavy rail lines, including the To-yoko Line. Now we run services entirely on electricity from renewable energy sources with net zero CO2 emissions on all lines in-cluding the To-kyu- Shin-yokohama Line, which started operating in March 2023. As our railway business accounts for around 30% of annual CO2 emissions by the Tokyu Group, achieving carbon neutrality in this area represents a major step toward the Tokyu Group’s target of achieving net zero CO2 emissions across the entire Group by 2050.Since March 2018, we have been progressively intro-ducing the 2020 series carriages to the Den-en-toshi Line, the 6020 series to the O-imachi Line, and the 3020 series to the Meguro Line, As of the end of March 2023, we had introduced 30 sets of the 2020 series (300 carriages) on the Den-en-toshi Line, 2 sets of the 6020 series (14 carriages) used as express trains on the O-imachi Line, and 3 sets of the 3020 series (24 carriages) on the Meguro Line. All carriages are equipped with nanoe* air puri- fiers and high back seats. We aim to ensure onboard comfort and peace of mind for passengers. *nanoe is a trademark of Panasonic Corporation. In December 2021, we completed the third of our “Kin-inaru Renewal” projects, which involved the refurbish-ment of Nagahara Station on the Ikegami Line more than half a century after its opening. As part of this in-itiative, we have sought to introduce a new, more en-vironmentally friendly ap-proach to stations. For ex-ample, in the under-eaves spaces, where we have actively sought to use tim-The refurbished Nagahara Stationber and existing materials, we have held the “Kininaru Food Loss” event, which aims to address food waste by gathering together and selling food products near-ing their expiry dates from stores near the station and along the Ikegami Line. In an effort to achieve a recycling-based society, we are promoting the Station Timber for All Project, which facilitates the reuse of old timber salvaged from station buildings and the like. We have sought to preserve the memory of historic wooden station build-ings for future generations by such means as using the salvaged station timber to make furniture for the shared office space at the TRAIN & BUS MUSEUM. We have also used such timber as part of the interior decor at Park Coffee cafe in Oimachi, and in Shin-Yoko Gateway Spot, the new waiting room at Shin-yokohama Station on the Sotetsu To-kyu- Shin-yokohama Line.In December 2021, we partnered with BOOKOFF GROUP HOLDINGS and BOOKOFF CORPORATION LTD. to launch a field trial aimed at promoting recy-cling-based urban development in which nothing gets thrown away. Lost property found at Tokyu line sta-tions, in trains and at other railway facilities becomes the property of Tokyu Railways if still unclaimed after the statutory storage period. Under this trial, Tokyu Railways placed such items back on the market as re-cycled goods via BOOKOFF stores both within Japan and overseas. As we have put in place the necessary operational setup and the trial proved somewhat ef-fective, we embarked on the full-scale launch of this initiative in April 2023.In March 2022, we began trialing Unilever’s UMILE Program at Mi-nami-Machida Grandberry Park Sta-tion on the Den-en-toshi Line. The aim of the program is to collect and recycle used plastic packaging from Unilever products. Installing the box at a station makes it easier for peo-ple to drop off plastic items for recy-cling on their way to work or school, or when going out somewhere.
