Developing the right mindset and passing on skills to foster safety and good serviceQualified Care-FitterWe are actively encouraging our staff to obtain the Care-Fitter qualification, which enables them to help people requiring assistance in walking, operating a wheelchair, or otherwise in need of care and to see things from their perspective. Railway Skills AcademyWe regularly hold Railway Skills Academy courses for se-lected employees of our railway business from each division. The Railway Skills Academy was established as a human resource development initiative, to enable participants to learn about a wide range of railway technology, outside their respective fields of expertise, in order to cultivate personnel with a broad overview of skills in each railways division and the ability to undertake cross-cutting initiatives. Competitions and workshopsThe technical divisions hold regular competitions and work-shops to improve employee motivation, enhance technical abilities within the organization, and ensure that veteran staff members pass on their skills to the younger generation of em-ployees, given that improved equipment performance arising from our program of renewal means that components need to be replaced due to breakdowns or deterioration less frequently. Improving accessibilityWe have completed construction of barrier-free routes in all 97 stations. Aiming to make our railway network user-friendly for all passengers, we are installing ele-vators near exits B6 and A6 at Shibuya Station on the To-yoko and Den-en-toshi lines. At Sangen-jaya and Sakura-shimmachi stations on the Den-en-toshi Line, we have installed additional elevators to serve as a second accessible route. We have also installed esca-lators at Hakuraku Station on the To-yoko Line and Eda Station on the Den-en-toshi Line.Introducing accessible trainsAs well as ensuring that all trains are equipped with wheelchair spaces, new trains built since FY2016 feature free space in every carriage, enabling wheel-chairs, strollers, and luggage to be accommodated more easily. Installation of Washlet® seats in station toiletsTo ensure that station toilets are comfortable for peo-ple to use, we are installing Washlet®* electronic bidet seats. By FY2019, we had completed their in-stallation at 80 stations. In FY2020, we plan to install them at some points not currently equipped with them at Shibuya Station and Naka-meguro Station. Our multifunctional toilets are all ostomate-com-patible (able to be used by people who have had surgery to create an artificial opening for discharging bodily waste), and we have also installed baby beds to assist passengers accompanied by children. *Washlet is a registered trademark of TOTO.Support for passengers with visual impairments Braille fare tables and Braille station guides are pro-vided in all stations. We are also moving forward with the installation of acoustic guidance to signal the po-sition of ticket gates and stairs leading to exits, with reference to the Barrier-Free Development Guidelines.Passenger support campaignSince November 2016, railway operators in the Greater Tokyo area have been working together to encourage not only station staff, but also passengers to approach and assist any passengers who appear to be in need of help.Displaying the baby stroller signFollowing the March 2014 introduction of a government-approved sign for baby strollers, we have put up baby stroller signs in designated wheelchair spaces and free spaces in carriages. We will continue our efforts to create a childcare-friendly environment by provid-ing equipment and services that enable children and their carers to use our railway network safely and with peace of mind.Free Wi-Fi service for inbound travelersWe provide a free Wi-Fi service for foreign visitors to Japan at a total of 30 stations, including all stations on the To-yoko Line and other major stations.Introduction of station numberingWith the aim of providing more user-friendly guid-ance, we have introduced station numbering on all signage, route maps, and fare tables, which is dis-played in the color of the relevant line.Tōyoko LineDen-en-toshi LineMeguro LineSetagaya LineKodomonokuni LineIkegami LineTōkyū Tamagawa LineŌimachi LineElectrics Division skills competition8
